Six Months Later: UMCOR Still Serving Flood-Affected Communities in Milwaukee – Wisconsin Conference of the UMC
UMCOR is on the ground in Wisconsin responding to the August 2025 flooding in southeast Wisconsin. A severe storm system brought up to 14 inches of rainfall to the Milwaukee area on August 9–10, 2025, triggering widespread flooding across local waterways. FEMA subsequently approved more than 38,500 support applications; the flood was FEMA’s second-most expensive disaster in 2025.
Six months later, on UMCOR Sunday, UMCOR, through the Wisconsin Conference, is still active in the Milwaukee area. Since the storm, Early Response Teams from throughout the country have cleaned basements in over 150 homes. More than 1800 flood cleaning buckets were distributed: this is faith in action with buckets and supplies collected at the 2025 Wisconsin Conference In-Gathering returning to Wisconsin. Work has started on rebuilding and restoring damaged homes (7,226 homes reported damage).
Thanks to a grant from UMCOR, a Disaster Case Management system is preparing to launch, assisting disaster survivors in recovering by connecting them with resources, developing recovery plans, and providing long-term support.
The UMCOR Sunday churchwide offering underwrites UMCOR’s administrative costs, allowing 100% of all funds given to humanitarian response and recovery efforts to be used directly for communities in need, such as the Milwaukee environs.
